Laura:
We all know Disney as it was when we were kids. Cinderella, Kim Possible, Even Stevens, nice shows that were funny and age appropriate. Now we have Shake it Up!, Good Luck Charlie, a bunch of under 18's (minors) running around in miniskirts with to much jewelry and unrealistic situations.Sierra:
Totally. Right after Life with Derick and those shows started going off everything turned to crap.Elane:
I miss the show Naturally Sadie. And these shows now adays are just ridiculous. Even Hannah Montana is ridiculous. It promotes lying to your friends and your life about who you are all in generalAmanda:
When I was a kid...many moons ago lol...Disney movies were the only kid's movies around and they didn't have Disney Channel yet. I can remember when The Lion King first came out (in '94 i believe...so i was around 8) there was a controversy about it because it was the first Disney movie to show blood splatter (when Scar and Simba were fighting) they had to do a re-release and get rid of the blood. But now its in everything kids watch (because they are moreosly de-sensitized). then when we hit teenage years there were rumors of pornographic materials hidden in each disney movie and that became the thing to investigate. i know totally wrong, but then it was funny. Now i enjoy watching the new disney movies that come out, but really can't stand the tv shows. The kids come off as bratty spoiled and whinny. I like iCarly and The Suite Life (can't stand the rich girl). But hey ~to each their own~Laura:
iCarly is Nickeodeon, which is different. if a nick girl has a short skirt on, it's tutu length and then jeans or full length legings. Nick girls (with the exeption of Jamie Lynn Spears) are pretty nice and wholesome. Disney isn't.Amanda:
oops, well you get my drift though right...Laura:
Well i was going to mention Nick anyway. They are great and the shows are better than anything Disney has had for years.Elane:
Hannah Montana is bad because is exposes lying to everyoneLaura:
Also, I recently found out that Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus have tattoos. When Demi wears all of the bandles on her wrists, its to cover the tattoos she has there.Autumn:
I think that Disney has always been corrupted. If you were to look at the old shows now, you'd find tons of innuendos in them. The only difference in the new Disney and the old Disney is that the new Disney is aimed towards a different generation of kids. The audience these shows are aimed at don't care about how unrealistic it all seems. Also, kids nowadays love the new Disney because it's filled with pretty faces, like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez (which I actually like her show; It's very entertaining), who do everything that the old Disney stars did (sing, dance, and act), except now it's more current. So to me, it seems like the same Disney from when I was six; except now, it's fit to the present.Amanda:
Tats aren't bad as long as they are tasteful and people realize they are permenant. I have 5 and most people would never know thatLaura:
I'm not against them either, but it comes down to the fact that these girls are the role models for children five and older. When we were that young, Disney would never have considered testing that boundary. I understand that the tats arent even showing, but I know certain mothers wouldn't let their ten year olds watch this if they weren't careful about hiding them
And as Amanda mentioned, the new Disney movies.
I find most of them crap, personally. Certain ones are alright, but Disney has stopped making fairy tales and even when they were, none of what they are doing would make Walt Disney happyElane:
I agree. I hate how Disney movies are nowadays. I'll stick with Pocahontas and the Lion King. Laura:
Fantasia
I wouldn't show half of the new Disney to my kids until they were 10-12 and Cinderella has become Cars and Tangled (both are alright) but I like the cheesey guy gets girl story line. The classic with dragons and sword fights and evil stepmothers. Elane:
I Agree. I like the movies like Pocahontas, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. One that is particularly bad is The Princess and the Frog.Amanda:
I don't know, I kinda liked The Princess and The Frog one. Elane:
I didn't like the Magic Mumbo Jumbo stuff. I wouldn't show that to my kids as childrenAmanda:
i mean the spoiled girl didnt get what she wanted but the hard-working one did. the prince learned what it was to love someone other than himself and not be waited on hand and foot. the firefly taught everyone that no matter how small you are you can shine bright and the gater learned that being true to himself will pave his road to success
Well my 3-year-old niece watched it, the colors are what gets her. She understands the different tones of music too, so when the bad guy is on doing his mumbo jumbo she knows 'oh he is not being nice' and when the old lady is on she knows 'oh she is good' and as kids get older it teached them right and wrong on their own path of religeos discoveryElane:
I guess, but I still wouldn't show it to my kids til aroung 10-12. The magic voodoo wad kinda iffy Amanda:
I'm also one that belives children should be open to learning of all different religion so they don't judge anyone based on what diety they hail. We don't want our 'leaders of tomorow' being closed minded.Elane:
I understand that, but the Voodoo kinda was a little too creepy even for meLaura:
Well, I don't know about Amanda, but I was raised with an understanding of things like Karma and Spirits, Ghosts and Tarot.
Recently I learned Voodoo is a good/bad thing.
Every child needs to realize that there is a balance to things like that. While I haven't seen the movie, I can understand how things like that are.
Also being from Louisiana, It isn't unlikely that I could meet a Voodoo priest just setting foot in New Orleans.
Magic and Voodoo are only creepy when they are bad like Ouiji Boards and Summonings.
But Disney shouldn't be putting things as controversial as that in their movies.Elane:
True, I guess I could show my older childrenLaura:
Like Pocahontas was Native American/Indian.
None of the Indian traditions were shown in the movie, at least nothing we weren't already aware of. Or nothing we couldn't handle.
Putting in Voodoo was going a little far. Sierra:
I personally loved Thumbalina it was awesomeAmanda:
Laura, you should know how I was raised, the same way we are of the same family. But mom also insured that we had an understanding of other religions too. Anyways, Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite. One of those don't judge based on looks things.Laura:
Beauty and the Beast
And religion wasn't something we discussed in my memory, because I wasn't curious about that.
It was like there is God and we were kept away from the belief of sin and repent and things like that.
I believe in God, I do not follow religion and as far as it goes, to each his own with belief and things like that. is my favorite princess tale of Disney. I haven't seen Thumbelina in forever.Elane:
My favorite is Pocahontas and The AristocratsSierra:
I don't know. Disney used to be awesome.
Disney
Now the animated shows are not even right. What happened to Lilo and Stitch and Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, and the two others they had that were REALLY popular. used to be awesome, full of many shows with real actors in real situations. Everyone looked realistic and fit. Now its not, everyone's trying to look older and be older so they're getting actors and putting so many different colowful makeup assortmants onto them. It's rediculout, they look like they've been gangbanged by crayola. And then there's product placement everywhere and bandwagon and so many different types of advertisement, they're trying to be so futuristiv to the point it's disturbing. They're getting to be more of an appropriate to a child version of adult swim. Laura:
Which two others?Autumn:
On the tattoo situation, parents have to realize that while these stars are role-models, they shouldn't be constricted with what they do to their bodies. These kids are seventeen/eighteen-years-old. Them and their parents have probably talked about it. And luckily, they cover them up. But even if they didn't, parents shouldn't make a big fuss about it. Just sit down and tell your kids about tattoos and how they can only get one when they reach legal age.
My favorite Disney movie was the Little Mermaid :). Ariel was the typical teenage girl. For some reason, she seemed to be the only Disney princess that really acted like the teenage girl they always tried to portray.Sierra:
But then they made her seem really bratty if you think about it. Like she was singing about how she wants so much more than she already had and they really messed hat movie up. If you think about it. But then again I love it. My favorite little mermaid was the one with her daughter. That one was good, but they do teach you that to love someone you can't be selfish and they show how you make sacrifices for love.
Back then the movies have themes and morals to teach how it's stuff the "bog corperations" teach and stuff with all the subliminal messaged and yes back then they pushed sex, but now it's even worse. Disney is portraying fakeness and being a conformer and what big corperations want people to do.
Amanda:
Another thing that annoys me about disney is how they change oroginal stories like Hercules.
Laura:
Seriously, I don't think it really sunk in until I was in like 7th grade, that Hercules was a lie.
It came down to the fact that it wasn't little things. They changed EVERYTHING about it. Hercules was never full god, and Hera hated him with every bit of her being.Amanda:
Yep, Disney really annoys me by changing stories and sugar coating them. Life isn't sugar-coated. Elane:
For Kids, though, do you really want your kids to know the truth in life and be completely well, . . ruined so early in life? I would rather have my kids watch the morals coming from old Disney movies, then to let them watch the stuff they do now-a-days. Laura:
There is a moral to alot of Disney movies, but they need the truth along with it.Elane:
True, but for kids they don't care they just like the colors and characters.
Laura:
But then they grow up and wonder why we ever let them watch stuff like that. Or at least I wish they could grow up to be that smart.
Elane:
Some just don't care of remember, I however want to talk about Mulan and the Aristocats. Their Morals.
Laura:
Mulan is about not stopping whether you're a boy, girl, or anything else. Keep going onto your goals.
